Duped by Employee in Granada Spain

Europcar - Duped by Employee in Granada Spain
Europcar - Duped by Employee in Granada Spain - Image 2

I reserved a car through Travelocity and the total was $149.32 for 3 days per my contract.

When I reached Europecar in Granada Spain, the lady at the counter said she will give us a bigger automatic car because thats all she had. I told her I am not looking for an upgrade and she said no its the same price.

When she asked us to sign the contract in Spanish the total amount shown was over $790.

When I questioned the wrong amount, she said dont worry its just a security deposit and you will get the difference refunded once you return the car.

My wife and I both asked her multiple times because we were signing a contract in Spanish, which we could not read, and the lady repeated that your total will be $149.32 and the rest is just a security deposit on hold.

I am very disappointed and saddened that she duped us and tricked us. This is fraud and she is taking advantage of people for not speaking the language.

She spoke fluent English and she knew exactly what she was doing.

Theres no way I would have agreed to switching from a $149 to over $790 knowingly. That lady is a fraud and a scammer for ripping us off.

False charges

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

e mails sent to me appear in english. It is pretty clear I am an american and while I can use google translate may I suggest english since that is my native language.

there is not a phone number posted in emails. there is not a useable email address posted in emails. Ive had to use google search to find this information. europcar claims there was damage to car upon return.

easy to claim that since no representative from europcar examined the car with us either before or after using it. This feels very fraudulent. easy to pick on tourists who dont speak the language and dont live in the country. I will not be using this rental company again.

I fully refuse to accept any and all charges made by your company. Europcar can not prove that any damages occurred during the time I used the car.

Good morning, I would like to inform you that I have rented 1 car. Upon arrival I first received a Seat that was later changed into a Volkswagen. So I only rented 1 car and not 2. I rented the car for 6 days according to the form I signed at the counter at the airport, 1 extra day has been charged which is not as stated on the form. The time of pick-up at Schiphol is the same time of return to Schiphol. You overcharged me by 222.01 euros, which I must get back from you. Kind regards. Alexander Kooijman

Upon returning car to airport, the inspector picked out a small scratch om passenger door, Told him I had no idea how it got there and was never walked around vehicle before leaving. Signed final paperwork and left, Weeks later ger a bill for $2000+ for scratch on door. I replied "NUTS" and got no reply but another bill for $2000+ with nothing else...

Cheap car/car with shortommings/unfair charges

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

At reservation, a Subaru Forester (or similar) was offered, but a Chery Tiggo8 was given. This car was not comparable at all!

Shortcomings of the car:

- front view camera not working, resulting in inactive Lane Departure Warning and Lake Keep Assist;

- rain sensor not working;

- rear window wiper not original/too big, resulting in not working.

Shortcomings were not noticed upon collection, but mentioned when returned.

The desk clerk didn't want to hear it and wouldn't make a notice of it.

Also a small bump on one of the tires was noticed at return of the car.

Therefore an amount of more than USD 300,- was charged from the deposit, whilst this tire was already almost worn; there was almost no profile left on the tire. They charged me for a brand new, top class tire, whilst the car was fitted with low budget tires!

Pros:

Cons:
  • Unfair charge of deposit

Preferred solution: Refund of deposit

User's recommendation: 1. Don't rent a car at Europcar. 2. If you still do: Check the car completely upon collection and make lots of pictures, also of the tires!

The refusal of Europcar to correct a double charge

The refusal of Europcar to correct a double charge
Updated by user Oct 16, 2023

Basically there has been no change. Noone at Europcar responded to my communication proving that I had been charged in double for my one week car rental in Mendoza, Argentina. I am afraid they are bunch of crooks with no interest whatsoever in customer satisfaction....

Original review Sep 16, 2023
On 20/3/23 I complained by email to reservas@***.com.ar that the bill for US$1,353.36 (with a subsequent credit of US$582.77 due to the Argentine dual exchange rate system) incorrectly included a charge for a second driver for the week, when at pick up on 18/3/23 they refused to accept my wife's driving licence. On 22/3/23 they responded to my email and admitted the error, saying it would be corrected on the car's return.

On return I was told that first I must pay the US$1,291.37correct price (with a subsequent credit of US$522.21), which I did, again on Mastercard, and then they would return the amount charged incorrectly.

I never received the credit of the first incorrect charge, in spite of numerous emails in recent months sent to clientes@***.com.arg; ECI-CC-Webmaster and ventas@***.com.arg. So, they still owe me US$770.59.

Dunning emails from Europcar Italy

I have received 2 emails on Dec 7 and again on Dec. 20 seeking payment of 67.10 EUR for a one way fee on a car we rented from July 7 to July 23,2023.

That was paid in cash in Ravenna when the car was picked up. When we returned the car in Naples the fee was changed to my credit card. I disputed the charge and upon investigating the charge was revoked. I have tried to contact Europcar in Italy.

So far, I hve sent 7 emails all of which bounced back as undeliverable. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Pasquale Zaccheo

Multiple damages before hire

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Got a car with multiple damages all around the car and once delivered it back I was charged more than 400 as they found a "new" one under the front bumper. I had not seen it before leaving when I took pictures of all other damages, as I was not creeping under the rental car before leaving. When I parked it upon delivery I walked around the car and again only saw the old scratches but did not take a second set of pictures.

Rental Return

Picked up rental in Erding Germany. They marked preexisting scratches on the left side of the vehicle. When I returned the rental at Munich Airport they notes the preexisting scratches on the right side of the vehicle. The pickup location and drop off location mixed up what they referenced as the right side of the vehicle and the left side of the vehicle. At the drop off location that claim a new scratch on the right side of the vehicle when in fact the scratch was already marked as preexisting on the left at the location the rental was picked up.

Extra charge for car rental

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We rented a car from your agency and picked it up and dropped it off in Loreto Mexico in late June 2023. We prepaid. We returned it on time and with more gas than we got it. On our credit card bill there was an extra charge made of $46.40 on july 2. I would like to know what that charge is for or have it deleted. I do not have the contract number as I threw it away since we returned the car without any problems.

A modest model upgrade at Edinburgh Airport resulted in a charge of C$1600

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
An agent at the Edinburgh airport location suggested a modest vehicle upgrade to accommodate 3 passengers and carry-on baggage, depite a car having been booked that the ad stated would accommodate 4 passengers. The original car had been prepaid & insured for C$615. The modest upgrade resulted in an additional charge of C$1671. Attempts to resolve result in computer generated emails and telephones that are not answered. In my opinion, a rating of one out of 5 is too high and feel we were conned. AThere should be zero category.
