Europcar Is Terrible
Europcar Is Terrible
My experience with Europcar was absolutely terrible. My wife and I booked a trip through Expedia and rented a car from Europcar and was supposed to pick it up from Norwich airport in England on Saturday Nov 21st 2017. We paid for the rental car in full before our trip through Expedia. We landed at Norwich airport at 5:00pm to find the Europcar closed. Which they were expecting us to arrive, but instead closed at 4:00pm. While at the airport we tried calling the customer service number for the corp office which was also closed. We spoke to customer service at the airport which they were not able to help us except point us to a taxi. We ended up getting a taxi which costed us £60.00 to take us to where we were staying. On Sunday Nov 22nd 2017 morning we called Europecar at the Norwich airport which was open and requested they bring a car to us. The person on the phone said it is against their policy to deliver a vehicle and that we would have to pick it up. We had to get a taxi back up to the airport which was another £60.00. When we got to the checkout desk and explained how unhappy we were the employee behind the counter didn’t offer any sort of apology or refund for being closed when we arrived. Instead he said the insurance that we purchased through Expedia wasn’t sufficient and that we need to purchase the advance insurance plan directly through them which costed us an extra £34.00 a day. Total was about £230.00 after all said and done. When we got home we contacted the Europcar customer service line and explained the entire situation and requested a refund on the 1 day we weren’t able to get the car as well as a full refund of the insurance we paid because that was an absolute lie the employee told us about the Expedia insurance. The customer service lady put in a case/ticket for us and sent us an email that she said we can reply to and send out taxi receipts to. I submitted the taxi receipt and have requested multiple times a status on our refund and have not heard a word from them since I submitted the case. I recommend no one use this company for anything. Every review site I have been to about Europcar shows nothing but very bad reviews. I wish I would have seen these review sites before I decided to rent a car from them because they are horrible.

Europcar - Stolen Rucksack

I accidently left my Rucksack in the back of my Hire Car I had for 2x weeks, the next day I realised I had left it in the boot, so first thing I called them to say could I collect my rucksack I had left in the boot, the answer was we didn't find anything- OMG what a set of lying thieves- I have called customer services, and the Cambridge office on several occasions and even visited them, but they couldn't care less. All my sports gear and Ipod went missing and not even an apology - I have now called the police as it is clear this companies values are extremely questionable. 1.5 weeks later customer services called me back having repeatedly called and chased them to find my rucksack and the same values exist there. Lesson learnt that Europe car will steal the cloths you are wearing if left unaccompanied.

Europcar in London, England - Unsafe vehicle given and caused accident

I was given a hire car through my insurance while my car is in the garage but unfortunately I had another accident in that car. I informed my insurers including the hire car firm and was told over the phone to collect another car in Guildford branch were I met Tina the manager. I wasted fuel to get there and I informed her about the accident and asked to be given the car they had promised to give and she said they had no car!!! I explained my concerns about driving the same car as it had an accident and felt unstable on the road including the funny noises and sounds from the engine which I heard ever since I started driving the car, also the engine was drinking a lot of fuel which I also smell strongly on the exhaust. With my experience as an engineer working on buses, including my knowledge (masters in General and Electrical engineering) I know the car needs a full inspection not a visual inspection. As I mentioned this to Tina she just handed me the keys of the same accident damage car to drive home. I later called a couple of numbers which was stated to call just to try get someone to collect and replace the damaged car but keep on being told that when a car is available I will be informed, and it 3 full working days and NOTHING!!! So I want to know WHY the car I was given was not fully inspected before hiring it to me through insurance as also the brake lights seem to have a mind of their own which I believe caused the second accident to this car (being hit again in the back)!!!, 2. WHY Tina would not even inspect or organise an inspection before even thinking of handing the keys to me of which I asked what if its damaged and will cause me to have another accident, but only answered that she is the manager??!! 3. Is it in your policy to just hand over a car even if the whole bumper is hanging off with disregards to customer safety??!! IM VERY VERY VERY UNHAPPY because now its 3days which I believe they will be charging the third party for hiring cost when the hire car is damaged and unsafe, and me not being able to even visit the doctor, which I should for my injuries, as I feel unsafe to drive the car!!!!! Never knew that a company as big as this will be unprofessional and not even follow the rules especially customer safety!!!! IM DISGUSTED and will take this matter further and will not BACK OFF!!!! Europcar Reading are Fraudsters

We were told that we could leave the car out of office hours and drop the key. They charged my credit card the next day due to a damage we haven't caused. We left the car exactly in the condition we initially had, which didn't include a scratch to the back wing. They also charged an additional administration fee that we weren't informed of. They're fraudsters, trying to rip people off. AVOID THEM. We will never ever rent with them again. They have terrible customer care who is not reasonable to deal with. You can't discuss with them in logical terms, the only sentence they know is: 'You're responsible, the documents you signed, etc.' Awful company

Europcar in Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote D'azur - Fraudulent charge

Europcar charged us for the damage that already existed on car at the time we took it from the agency. We disputed and explained that we did not make the damage and should not be held liable, but one year after they still wants us to pay this fraudulent charge. In addition, their staff is very unprofessional, and most of them do not speak English. Very rude and do not want to cooperate with the customer. We tried to communicate with them several times, but they do not listen. So it was not only the fraudulent charge, but also the fact that they did not care and know how to handle this situation. Worse business I had to deal with EVER!

DON'T USE EUROPCAR

After struggling with thier website i called their office at Heathrow. I wanted a meet and greet service for my arrival at Terminal 5. Their representative recommended their 'Arrive and Drive' service at an extra cost of £20.00. I had been guaranteed i would be met at T5, with nothing more needed than a signature and i would be on my way. THIS IS NOT TRUE.......THERE WAS NO MEET AND GREET!! After 30 minutes of calling various numbers i finally tracked down a man in a Europcar Kiosk that sits outside T5 near the bus pick-ups. He was tired and not at all helpful. We did the paper work and then trekked with 2 trolleys of luggage to the furthest point of the car park where our car was. This in itself was not a huge ordeal but why sell something that simply doesn't exist..?? Also the drop off is NOT AT THE TERMINAL AS I WAS PROMISED. I have tried to communicate with Eurocar about this mis-sold service. They are more interested in keeping their £20 than keeping a customer satisfied. I fly into Heathrow and rent cars every month, i will never use Europcar again. C Fairbrass

DO NOT TRUST EUROPCAR. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS - THEY COST ME £1000, PUT ME IN DANGER AND HAVE CAUSED ME NOTHING BUT STRESS SINCE.

Europcar in Spain provided me with a dodgy car with a worn out clutch on the *** of failing, the clutch burnt out after just 90 minutes of hiring it as they failed to checked or service the car properly. The car was dangerous which I would soon find out, the clutch failed whilst on a hill and would not go into first or second gear. It started rolling backwards down the hill with passengers in it so I had to push harder than normal on the clutch to stop us rolling off the hill and it burnt out. We had to jump out then and there, there was nothing more we could do.

Instead of rectifying the situation they shouted at me before even inspecting the car and gave me a bill of £1000. They ruined my holiday, the following 2 months were absolute *** trying to get this unfair situation resolved to no success. It was really upsetting and I've tried everything to stop them just taking my money but as it was booked in spain there is nothing i can do, it is under Spanish law and would be very expensive to fight. I have tried the ECRCS and other companies out there to resolve disputes but after battling for months it is pointless, the whole situation is hugely unfair. I had even paid extra for full insurance which turns out does not cover clutches or brakes. On top of it all they even charged me for a day's rental and 150 euros admin charge!!! Would you believe...just crazy.

The big man wins.

Please for your own sake DO NOT TRUST EUROPCAR SPAIN. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, it's not worth the risk.

Be very careful when you rent a car with EUROPCAR in Bruges, Belgium. I was a victim of a big scam by the people at this office.

I was told it will be OK to return the car on Sunday even though the office will be close. They said just park the car and drop the keys through the office door. When I returned home to the US, I had a bill from EUROPCAR for damage to the car and another one for fuel. First, I took pictures of the car when I left it at the parking lot.

The car was in the exact same condition as it was when I picked it up in Dusseldorf. There was no damage to any part of the car not even a scratch in the paint. Also, I kept a receipt from the gas station in Bruges where I filled the gas tank on my way to return the car. My Credit card company has been trying to get prove of the damages from Europcar but so far in three months they haven't sent anything.

To me this is a scam to get extra money from foreign tourist. The car was perfect when I left and the tank was full.

I know it and they know it so it is a shame that a company I used to consider honest will do this to its customers. Stay away from Europcar in Bruges.

I sent this to the MD and am awaiting response: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY... My problems began even at the booking process. I booked via www.a1nationalvanhire.co.uk and was quoted £333.97 for 3 days hire of a Mercedes van. I received an email confirming this price...

Something very similar happened to me in Spain.

No VAT was added at the time of the booking, in addition, I was charged 120 EUR for a mandatory insurance, whereas it was not done at the time of the booking. The surprise came at the office. This was not it .. when I took the car back, they were charged 0.12 EUR for every km that was over the 250 km daily limit (actually, i know about this chanrge, but it's Spain, who does it in Spain).

So.. at the end, I managed to spend 100% more on car rental than the original booking.

Never had these problems with other providers.. National, Avis for instance have always been customer friendly.
